Filming for The Sarah Jane Adventures began last week, according to The Doctor Who News Page, with K9 apparently making an appearance. TDWNP have photos, so you can click the link to check them out – oh look, here it is again! – and they also posted a spoiler which I’m going to reprint after the jump.
Continue Reading »The official website for the Doctor Who spin-off that isn’t really a spin-off, K9, is up and running. It’s pretty image-heavy, being as it is made entirely of images, so if you’re on a dial-up modem you’re probably somewhere in 1996 and so can’t watch the show yet. But hey, the TV movie, eh? It’s going to be awesome.
The K9 site contains videos, including a look at the opening titles (which, for reasons I can’t quite define, feel incredibly Australian), character and monster bios, and an episode guide. Interestingly, the Monsters page includes what looks like an albino version of the Blowfish alien from Torchwood‘s second series.
Is K9 going to be shit? All signs point to yes, but after reading some of the information provided I’m curious as to how the series will fit into the established Who universe (I refuse to say “Whoniverse” because I’m a pretentious bastard) and that alone is probably enough for me to actively take the time to watch the show.
Oh dear, have I just volunteered URP!’s official unofficial K9 correspondent?
Continue Reading »The Australian-produced K9, the third Doctor Who spin-off in as many years, has finally been given an airdate. The first episode, “Regeneration”, will be airing on Disney XD in the UK on April 3rd at 4pm, mere hours before the Eleventh Doctor makes his debut. Very clever, Disney. I see what you did there. The second episode airs at the same time the following day.
Meanwhile, over in Australia, K9 also debuts on the 3rd at the slightly sillier timeslot of 9am. A prime slot for the “kids who get up at 7:30am and decide to turn the TV on at maximum volume whilst eating every last fucking Penguin in the cupboard even though it had been made absolutely clear that they were supposed to go in their lunchboxes for school the following week” demographic, but not so great for “longtime fans of Doctor Who who wanted to see what a trainwreck K9 would be but would rather be in bed at 9am, even while their kids are shouting and screaming and eating all the Penguins”.
I’m not making these demographic names up. That’s how Australian TV networks demo everyone.
Continue Reading »A Great Big Threatening button which, under the circumstances, you might actually want to push. If you’re in the UK you’ll be lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the first minute of “The Eleventh Hour” via the BBC’s Red Button service. It’ll be popping up at various times from this Wednesday until the show’s Easter weekend launch. So far the confirmed times for Wednesday are from 6am to 2pm, then again from 3pm to 5:50pm, and finally from 9pm onwards.
Of course, that minute will probably work its way onto YouTube or some such thing, and the very moment it does I guarantee you one of us is probably going to pick it apart. Or maybe we won’t.

Continue Reading »Could Tom Baker soon be recording new audioplays for Big Finish? He seems to think so, and Big Finish are inclined to agree, although we probably won’t see anything until 2011 at the absolute earliest.
Am I the only person here getting a little excited about the possibility of a ruddy great big multi-Doctor story? Because the idea of the Fourth Doctor and the Eighth Doctor having actual interaction gives me the vapours.
Continue Reading »Saturday was busy, manic, and every bit as awesome as the day that had preceded it. The number of attendees was much higher than the previous day, such is the magic of the weekend. Stuff sold quicker, seating in panels became harder to find, and there were so many costumes. Saturday is the day that Gallifrey One really exploded – not just in scope, but in my own personal perception.
Continue Reading »A quick update concerning our Gallifrey One coverage: My iPhone died at the con last night so the live-tweeting, which I’d just got working, stopped at some point in the night. My plan was to get my laptop and write up the Day Two recap from the lobby, but instead I spent the night hanging out with a bunch of awesome people (including the fantastic, drunk, and fantastically drunk Tony Lee, writer of Doctor Who comic series “The Forgotten”) and I didn’t get into bed until – hngh! – 7am. That’s in the morning.
So yes, the Day Two recap didn’t get written up, and the Day Three recap probably won’t get written up until tomorrow as I’m completely knackered. But fuck me, what a fantastic weekend. Absolutely loved it, and I am most definitely going to be going to Gallifrey One again next year.
Continue Reading »Day one of Gallifrey One has come to an end, and I have to say I enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. I’ll be honest with you, time spent on Gallifrey Base and on SyFy.com’s Doctor Who Forum had left me with a very sour impression of Doctor Who fans in general. I viewed the masses of Who fandom (I refuse to use “Whovians” – it’s pretentious and stupid) as largely hateful creatures unhappy with every new addition to lore and pining for a perceived “Golden Age” that probably never happened.
My view was quite wonderfully shattered by almost everyone I met at Gallifrey, apart from one person who, his views on Doctor Who aside, thought that The Dark Knight was a messy pile of shit.
