As touching and deserving as the tribute to Nicholas Courtney was, I actually thought it was a bit of a shame that The Brigadier couldn't live on, always off at a meeting or stuck in Geneva...

Maybe it's because Moffat has continually thrown us off-kilter with odd twists, but some of this just seemed a little too obvious. The question being "Doctor who?" had seemed obvious, ditto that the dying Doctor would be the Tesselecta. Although on that second point, the idea that the Doctor was still actually there was fairly clever. I guess that maybe they were so obvious as to be overlooked - but there was nothing here to rival the HOLY SHIT THAT'S CLEVER reaction of the last series finale when the Doctor reversed through the previous episodes and gave that speech to Amy in the Byzantium's forest.

I'm more worried by the fact that while we got some answers to questions set up by series five, we've been given a boatload more for series seven to answer, and after The Wedding Of River Song I'm not so eager to see them fully answered.

Not that it was all bad. The time-shattering kiss was a nice touch, and the All Of History At Once-verse was full of brilliant little moments. ("Pterodactyls are vermin" being a stand-out favourite.)

I do like the idea that the Doctor is moving away from the egocentric "Who da man?" attitude he's been building up in a very nicely-formed character arc (beginning with his "look me up" speech to the Vashta Nerada until it backfires spectacularly in The Pandorica Opens) and is now ready to fall back into obscurity as he thwarts evil. If nothing else, it should get Lawrence Miles working on new arguments against the show.

And by the way, was anybody else expecting to see Lorna Bucket and the Gamma Forests in this episode? Maybe next series, then.

Above all, though, wasn't that a nice posthumous shout-out for Nicholas Courtney?

Is this forum dead :-(

I know Closing Time was disappointing but that used to mean a review would take a while to go up, not the broadcast discussion.

I do hope you keep going with this. It's the community that's nice, even if people occasionally don't have time for anything other than lurk mode.

Anyway, all the best. No worries if maintaining this forum is too much given the other stuff you have to do in life. I couldn't do it, and please don't receive my sentiments as some kind of demanding.

A wonderful surprise to find that last week's excellent episode was matched so soon! The guest characters were very well drawn - maybe the best ensemble of one-off guest characters since Midnight?

One of my favourite things about this episode was watching the Doctor's reaction to spying Rita as a potential new companion. The fact that he so readily joked about "firing" Amy made a nice contrast with the fact that the episode's conclusion was all about her.

I don't really have many criticisms of this episode in itself, but did anyone think it was slightly hurt by following on so soon from the very similar Night Terrors? It was a bit distracting to find myself making comparisons throughout. Both episodes involved childhood fears; the doll's house and hotel were quite similar Shining-referencing, exit-less locations (this seems to be something of a trend this series, what with the House-controlled TARDIS from The Doctor's Wife); and the mind control elements of both "praise him" and the doll transformations felt like similar threats. (But this episode really benefited from the fact that "praise him" was much more thoroughly explored than those doll transformations.)

The final shot of the teaser for next week's episode reminded me of that signature gory moment from Hitchcock's The Birds...

Last week, my Dad deemed The Girl Who Waited his favourite story within ten minutes.

Last night, I deemed The God Complex my favourite story before the title sequence even began.

Absolutely brilliant.

Not entirely sure why there would be a strongly divided opinion here: strong character work and action-hero goodness, plus steampunk 'through the looking glass'? Lovely.

Still, I did briefly expect to learn that Amy Pond is red/green colour blind in this episode.

I thought The Girl Who Waited was fantastic and Karen Gillan was very, very good. There I've said it.
