Well, isn’t this odd. Matt Smith isn’t the only one getting a new coat this year – apparently the Eighth Doctor has a brand new costume. He’s got a big shiny naval jacket with brass buttons, and – er – a bag. Oh, and a new sonic screwdriver that’s sort of a bit like the Eleventh’s, but with more wood involved. Lookiesee:
There are two ways of looking at this, really. The first is that they’re finally tired of using all the fourteen-year-old publicity pictures of McGann for the Big Finish covers, and wanted to take some fresh ones to more accurately reflect how he looks now – and at the same time, he decided that he didn’t want to wear (or couldn’t fit into) the old costume, and if they were changing it anyway, they might as well take the chance to be a bit more drastic with it.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide which you think is more likely.

Oh, now that *is* interesting. The look is consistent with the tabloid rumours about the eighth Doc appearing in ‘The End of Time’ as well. Maybe it was a scrapped idea which Moff has decided to resurrect and use.
McGann looks great in those shots. Age has made him look a bit more rugged and the general look seems designed to evoke the ninth Doctor, as though he’s slowly headed in the black leather jacket and crew-cut direction.
Man, as awesome as it would be to have McGann show up in New Who, quite frankly, I’ll believe it when I see it.
I dislike this, if only because it makes the regeneration scene in my mind where Eccleston wakes up dressed as an Edwardian dandy and burns the wigge and winklepickers in disgust, officially non-canon.
It just makes me think of this: http://www.1stfortoys.co.uk/toys-90/paddington-shaped-puzzle-6028-2600.jpg
Rather than Andy M’s regeneration scene, I urge everybody to imagine the ninth Doctor being discovered in this costume, wearing a tag that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you.”
Why can’t they be called satchels anymore? FUME.
