LIZO MZIMBA IS AT THE ELEVENTH HOUR PREMIERE AND WE’RE NOT

But he was at least decent enough to post a Twitter update about the series trailer that’s apparently been shown tonight. Spoilers (monster appearance related) in the link and after the jump.

Ooh. New series trailer. Spitfires dog fighting in space. Cybermen! Stonehenge. Roman centurions. Weeping Angel!!!!

Yes, the Cybermen are back. As it happens, for reasons we can’t divulge, URP! have known about this for a little while – and what Lizo isn’t telling you is that they’ve been redesigned, which heavily hints that Moffat is bringing back “our” universe’s Cybermen rather than what the tediously-minded refer to as the “Cybusmen”.

Also, “Spitfires dog fighting in space” sounds like as brilliantly iconic a first series trailer image as “alien ship crashing into Big Ben”. Marvellous.

EXCITED YET?

UPDATE (19.03) Alright, so the Cyberman in the new trailer is old-style. But for anyone linked here from a certain forum who wants to point and laugh at our WRONGness, we direct you to further comment here. Thankyoubye.

Seb Patrick once met Paul McGann, who immediately pretended to be Mark McGann. He writes for Den of Geek, BBC America, Film4 and the official Red Dwarf website, among others. He owns over thirty toy Daleks and wishes the Dapol factory tour was still open.

  1. Blogger Who have also put up Lizo doing an interview with Matt with a clip from the first episode. Having seen it, (with it being the first time we’ve really seen Matt performing properly in an episode rather than a speciallly made trailer or a montage,) i’m starting to see why Moffat was so taken with him.

  2. It seems unlikely that the old design Cybermen would ever play a big part in the new series. I wonder if it’s more of a cameo?

Of course, our get-out clause could be that the ‘redesign’ was just the decaying of the original design ;)
